This fall, Apple unveiled not just three new phone models, but also the latest version of their mobile operating system, iOS 11. Both specialists and users agree on the fact that iOS 11 brings many much needed changes and improvements, better accessibility, and ways of getting more out of an iPhone.

Compared to the previous releases, iOS 11 is packed with the largest number of new features, ranging from customization capacities, more control over phone storage and privacy while browsing the internet, to a specific feature that could literally save users’ lives.

In this article, the focus was on features which actually bring more usability and help phone owners solve various problems. We did not forget those features which users have been demanding for some time now and which were finally included in the latest version of iOS.

Without further delay, these are the top features all users will enjoy after upgrading to iOS 11:

Do Not Disturb While Driving

Texting and driving is almost as bad as driving under influence in terms of traffic accidents with casualties. With iOS 11, users have a life saving features which will prevent them from getting distracted from driving.

When the “Do Not Disturb While Driving” mode is activated, the mobile phone screen turns dark. Every time users get a text message, the sender receives an automatic reply that it is not safe for the recipient to reply at that moment. The feature can be enabled in the Control Center.

The Control Center

Fully redesigned with an accent on usability and customization, the Control Center of iOS 11 really lets users take control of their phone. It stands out by the minimalist design of the self-explanatory icons and, for the first time, brings the volume control on the same screen with the other customizable features.

Users can also customize the Control Center itself, by going to Settings > Control Center > Customize Controls to add or remove the controls they want to access with priority.

One Handed Keyboard Mode

This feature used to be available only for iPads, but in iOS 11 it is also available for iPhones. By holding the Globe button on the keyboard, users can switch to a mini-keyboard either on the right or on the left side of the screen.

Considering the ever increasing size of mobile phones, this convenient feature is a must-have for writing messages quickly on the go.

Increased Privacy Protection in Safari Browser

The Safari browser has a new feature, enabled by default: “Try to Prevent Cross-Site Tracking”. This feature stops ads following you from website to website by means of Facebook Pixel or other means of user tracking.

If you want to disable it for any reason, go to Settings > Safari and you will find the feature listed there.

Siri Can Translate Between 6 Languages and Respond to Text Input

The voice assistant Siri now features a very useful characteristic: that of personal translator. To access this feature simply say: “How to say [sentence/ phrase/ word] in [language]?” At the moment, Siri supports translations between six languages: English, French, Italian, German, Spanish and Mandarin Chinese.

And if you would rather text than speak to Siri, you can do it by going to Settings > General > Accessibility > Siri > Type to Siri. Next time you access Siri, a keyboard will appear on the phone screen.

Smart Storage

Running low on storage space is a common mishap among iPhone owners. With iOS 11, users can access the redesigned Files section and organize all their documents, photos and other files among various Apple devices and the iCloud storage solution.

A brand new feature for freeing up storage space is Auto App Removal. It can be activated by going to Settings > General > iPhone Storage. When the phone is low on storage space, it will automatically delete the apps you use less frequently.
